Know God For Yourself

By Irene Nana Adjoa Bankam, Winnipeg

“Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and lets me in I will dine with him and he with me.” Revelations 3:20

For so long have we disregarded the still small voice inside us. We lived a life that most of us thought would make us happy within. We had taken the whole world upon ourselves and tried to make sense of it, but little did we know that what we thought we knew, wasn’t really so.

Each day, we wake up and believe that the God of our parents will take care of us but when we come to think of it, most of us don’t know him for ourselves. We are just holding on to the skirt trails of our parents. It’s about time we realized what our parents have and learned to know God for ourselves.

Our parents do their best to show us the way but in this present world, they can’t make us go their way. It is up to us to choose what’s right. Life’s struggles send us looking for answers in all the wrong places. We live in a world where we want what we need now and fast; but by so doing, we make so many mistakes that could have been prevented.

We tend to rush through life and skip all the wonderful things that God has planned for us. Many of us carry our burdens upon our shoulders thinking we don’t need anybody, but really, we do. We need the Lord God Almighty in our life to make peace with ourselves. Whatever happened in the past is done and gone. We can’t change it; we can only mold the future. Disregard what people think about you and live only for God, not for mankind.

How much longer are you going to ignore that still small voice? Don’t you think it’s about time you experienced the inner joy you heard about for so long? Do you not need a relief from what has been burdening you for so long? Of course you do; just listen to that still small voice and let the Lord come into your life. He’ll make a change in you that will show on the outside. He’ll wipe away that tear off your face and the smile off your enemy’s face. When you have Jesus- the Light of the world- in you, life makes sense.

Do not confuse self-indulgence with happiness. True and lasting happiness is within the arms of God- the arms that will embrace your pain, hurt, weakness, and shame when you let him into your heart. Know God for yourself.
