Stop! Take a Minute for the Lord

By Irene Bankam, Winnipeg

Right after you wake up from sleep, the first thing you often do is to think about your plans for the day. Has it ever crossed your mind that you should first talk to your Maker? There might not be anything in particular that you want to ask God but there will always be plenty of things to talk to him about.

For instance it might not be a bad idea to actually thank the Lord for counting you among the living. Not very many people made it even to the first part of this year let alone today, but you did. Would it be too much of a burden then to thank the Lord for this and also to ask for his protection and guidance throughout the day? If you manage to have time to do other things that are of less importance, then why don't you make to talk to the Lord?

Imagine what your life would have been without God. Where would you have been? Take a good look at the world around. What do you see? Things are not as cozy and fruitful for others like you have it. Will you then find time to talk to the Lord? No, that's not how it is supposed to be. Life doesn't have to be hard in order for you to know when and what to talk to the Lord about. Proverbs 16:3 entreat us to commit our ways unto the Lord so that our plans will succeed. Thus when you find yourself thinking that you are too busy to talk to the Lord, think of it as finding yourself too busy to fix your tires, or check your oil and light before a road trip.

God has always been there for us even when we did not recognize Him as God. He is always with us through trials and temptations. How long is it going to take you to recognize that you are not on earth because you wanted to, but by God’s grace.

Having the Lord as your protector is the best security you can ever have. Just stop and take a minute to thank him. Commit your ways into his hand, and you’ll see the difference it makes.
